Info for 23rd January 2015 SCOTTISH SCHOOLS INDOOR ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS : Could all pupils who have entered the above event please come to a very brief meeting on Friday 30th January in the games hall. BORDER SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY : Could all pupils who have entered the above event please meet across at the Gym Halls at 11.20 on Thursday 29th January. DANCE FESTIVAL : Scottish Country Dance rehearsals for the Dance Festival will begin Thursday 29th January at 1.30pm in the gyms. Both boys and girls are welcome, it is for all year groups. See Mrs Munro for more details . MODERN LANGUAGES TRIP TO NORTHERN FRANCE : Could all S2 & S3 pupils going on the trip to Northern France in May come to a very important meeting on Friday morning (23/01), at breaktime, in G4. Mr Raffier. LEARNING AND AMBASSADORS GROUP: Next meeting will be Monday 2nd February, period 1 in room E11. Please can all members attend. SENIOR INTERHOUSE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT : The next round of the Keir Rafferty cup will be held on Friday 30th January. There will be a volleyball tournament for S5/6 pupils at 1.30 until 3.00. Sign-up sheets will be available during your core PE period and from Mr Forrest. See Mrs Munro for more details. COLLEGE APPLICATIONS : The Borders College deadline for applications is 15 March 2015. If you apply by that date, you are guaranteed an Interview. Edinburgh College applications will open on 2 February, with a deadline of 15 May 2015. Make sure you apply well before the deadline! Students will be given support in PSE for applications and interview skills. Also make sure you speak to your Guidance teacher! Any questions, see Mrs Catto COLUMBA 1400 AWARENESS EVENING TUESDAY 27 JANUARY AT TD1 : Young people in the Scottish Borders are being given the chance if a life changing experience through the Columba 1400 Leadership programme. A weeks residential, full of challenges and fun, will take place on the Isle of Skye from 12th - 17th April 2015. The TD1 Youth Hub are hosting an Awareness Evening from 5 - 7 pm on Tuesday 27th January - come along to find out more, or speak to Mark Smith, Doug Ormston or Mrs Catto . SCOTTISH POWER – PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME : Scottish Power’s pre-apprenticeship programme, known as the Engineering Foundation Programme, is run at Edinburgh College in Dalkeith. There are 14 places starting September 2015. Students gain an electrical engineering qualification at SCQF Level 5 and also get 5 weeks of technical training delivered by Scottish Power. 5 will be taken on as full time apprentices, so there is a real opportunity for employment. Students will also receive a £200 monthly allowance to attend college. The campaign will be live until the end of February and candidates can apply on the Scottish Power website and also find out more information about the programme. scottishpower/pages/efp_apply_now.asp They are looking for 2 subjects from either Maths, English or a Science subject at National 5 or National 4 level. AON – MODERN APPRENTICESHIPS : They are recruiting across 3 streams; The Aon Insurance Apprenticeship - Glasgow The Aon Consultant Apprenticeship - Glasgow The Aon Actuarial Apprenticeship - Glasgow Please visit the Aon Early Careers website: aonearlycareers.co.uk for details.
