Infocus - Members Choice - the oh dear moments in Falcon recent history Over recent weeks, we have highlighted and will continue to highlight numerous brilliant individual contributions in club history over the past decade; blazing innings from Ando, Big Fish and Timmy English, Rosey and BPs exceptional bowling performances, etc. We have and will continue to offer our members various options of individual brilliance that we will fittingly highlight and reminisce upon as we celebrate great individual contributions. That said, for a change and something different, we are going to invert our Member Choice options and share the lighter side of some less than brilliant individual moments. All options offered have been enjoyed and laughed about for years and are in great spirit of the not so great individual moments that, after time has passed, we often spend more time reflecting upon than we do the great moments of individual brilliance. With this regard, the first 3 Options that are not so great available for our members to choose upon and have a reminiscing laugh at are as follows: Option A) brothers in arms - very recent memory. It is Season 13/14 and the 3rd XI and individuals within the team are struggling. Frustration is mounting and they look to an inspirational moment from a leader. Captain Tim English has played magnificently in accumulating 89 runs and is eyeing off his maiden turf century. The team is overjoyed in celebrating what will be a great success. Better still, Tim is joined at the wicket by brother Matt and a moment for team, club and family will warm the hearts of all. Unfortunately, Matt proceeds to call a cheeky single and not content with just pushing for a tight run, he completes the job by running straight into Tim and knocking him over mid wicket..... Option B) L-Train drops a Premiership. It is the 2009/2010 3rd XI Semi Final versus Yarraville and, ala Herschelle Gibbs, L-Train drops the game and, arguably, Premiership. It is the first day of the two day final. It is the first over of the day. It is the first ball of the first over. Time to make a statement. Mark OBrien bounces the opening bat who half pulls/half fends off his nose. The ball catches the top edge and goes flying down to the L-Train stationed at the fine leg boundary for this very dismissal. Yarraville to be 1/0 after 1 ball. As the ball is in flight, the slip cordon start celebrating, fist pumping, high fiving and telling the batsmen where to go and, well, hmmm Option C) pound town. The Season is 2005/2006 and the Falcon 2nd XI travel to Malvern City Oval to take on the top of the table Malvern outfit. The Falcons bat in week one and multiple contributions see them compile 280. In week 2, the Falcons soon have Malvern at 3/20 and in REAL trouble.. Anyway, 5 hours later and with the game called 30 minutes early, Malvern had recovered to not only win the game but score 450+ with 3 centurions.. From an individual perspective, BOTH Ben Wood and David Lawson return, arguably, the worst figures in club history (2 in one game) when BOTH concede over 120 runs a piece from their overs bowled. Furthermore, the Malvern library suffered severe structural damage to its roof through the sheer volume of balls that were dispatched on top of said roof during a very, very, very ordinary afternoon Cast your vote now and we will relive one of the less than brilliant individual highlight moments as above in good natured fun as we look back on the lighter side of the game.
