The test which reports say was as good as it gets pundits say was a commendable exercise from the state government who is planning to recruit hundreds into the state civil service to replace the retiring civil servants at the end of the year. Over ten thousand applicants, reports say obtained the recruitment form, but only 6,000 were considered to write the test. It was learnt that the number was reduced to 6,000 as only applicants with a university degree and holders of Higher National Diploma, HND with additional qualifications like PGD, ACA, etc. were considered, while holders of NCE, OND, and HND without additional qualifications were not considered. The National Association of Technologists in Engineering, NATE, had been advocating for the government to put both university degree and HND on the same level, but it seems their efforts at stopping the disparity will continue to be frustrated by some people. No one would expect someone like Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to allow such policy in a state he governs, having graduated from The Polytechnic, Ibadan himself. When asked why the government employed the policy in reducing the number of applicants who sat for the recruitment test, Governor Aregbesola reports say drifted away from the question to other things. Some have suggested in the past that government should scrap polytechnic education if the graduates of the institution who have spent the same number of years spent by university graduates, and who usually are more technically sound than university graduates would not be regarded the same way university graduates are regarded. What the government will do about this, and how insistent NATE would be till they achieve what they want remains to be seen. Posted by niyi on December 2, 2012. I gathered dat HND holders would be tested in January, for relevant positions like Higher Technical Officers, e.t.c. Although d test process was so unorganised that some of us had to write with flash lights from our fones around 7pm. dis is an exam dat was scheduled for 8a.m! by sarah on Dec 3, 2012 at 11:59 pm Hi,Ogbeni Rauf This is totally unfair for this government to do like this to the people that is governing. He must to have inform them before they collect the form because of the stress they all passed through during buying the form. Is not good, please try to inform him(Aregbesola). by bello abdulharith k. on Dec 4, 2012 at 2:58 pm I am a HND holder in Building Technology. I had an internsive interview with some so-called Bsc, Bteh, Beng graduates etc on a building project some months ago and i came out the best and the contract to build an estate was awarded to me. So what else do we have to say.. Degrees my FOOT….. by Onyinyechi on Dec 18, 2012 at 12:28 pm Well, there should not be reason for discrimination. Even those sortlisted, only the first and may be second set wrote the test. Some did not write as their names were wrongly spelt. The test was poorly organized. If that test will be transparent, it needed be re conducted in more organized way. by Yomi on Dec 18, 2012 at 9:30 pm Out of 16 of us that served @my PPA during my youth service, d HND holders amongst us were the best nd we really gave kudos 2 dem.
