Information for parents and students: Summer School Due to the - TopicsExpress

Information for parents and students: Summer School Due to the labour dispute between the BC Teachers’ Federation and BC Public School Employers’ Association, the Vancouver school district is unable to proceed with summer school courses and programs. The district’s secondary preview courses, secondary completion courses, remedial courses as well as courses and programs for elementary students will all not proceed this summer due to the current provincial labour dispute. Refunds for summer school course fees will be processed in the next few weeks. Report Cards: Due to the labour dispute between the BC Teachers Federation and BC Public School Employers’ Association, report cards contain limited information. Teachers were only required to provide final marks for students in grades ten, eleven, and twelve. For grades eight and nine students, some teachers did provide final marks even though they were not required to do so. Consequently, some courses have final marks indicated on the report card and some do not. If a student has received a final mark below 50%, the student may be required to repeat the course. A blank final mark indicates that the student has been enrolled in the course, but no mark has been provided. Decisions regarding whether students will progress to the next grade and/or course level will be made on an individual basis. If a pre-requisite course has no mark, all attempts will be made when school resumes to determine if the student will be promoted to the next level. Summer Hours: The main office will be open, with limited staff available, between 8:00am – 2:00pm. Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
