Information for students Change to student email accounts Your student email account is changing from Monday 19 August. Throughout next week (19– 23 August), the CPIT student email system will be switching over from Live@EDU to a new system: Office 365. You will see a change to your account by the end of Friday 23 August but you may see a change sooner. IT Help CPIT looks after your new Office365 email account. If you have any trouble accessing your account, please contact the ICT Service Desk: email [email protected] or phone 03 940 8800. Questions you might have Will I be able to access my email account while this is happening? Yes certainly - this should not cause any disruption to you accessing your email. Will my email address change? Your student email address will stay exactly the same: [email protected] How will I access this new email system? To access your new Office 365 email and calendar system, go to your student website campus.cpit.ac.nz/ and click on Student Email. You could also bookmark this link and log in this way (this link works now and after the upgrade): https://outlook/student.cpit.ac.nz Why is the system changing? This change is happening because Microsoft is switching off the old Live@EDU email service in September. We have to change as a result. Anything I need to do? Update internet explorer If you are still using Internet Explorer 6 or 7 please upgrade to a later version. Office365 is compatible with Internet Explorer version 8 or higher. It is compatible with all other browsers. Update your security info To make it easier to reset your Microsoft account password if you forget it during or after the upgrade - it might be worth adding an alternate email address to your current Live@EDU account. For information on how to add an alternate email address, see Microsoft’s ‘Why do I need to add security info?’ Anything else I need to know? You will also have a SkyDrive and Messenger Account After the upgrade you will also have a SkyDrive account. To access this go to https://skydrive.live/ This account will have the same username ([email protected]) and initial password as the Office365 account. CPIT will have no administration rights over this personal account so we will be unable to reset the password for you. Please go to https://account.live/ResetPassword.aspx to reset the password for your SkyDrive and Messenger account after the upgrade. Email password no longer synchronised with your CPIT password At the moment your CPIT password is synchronised with your student email, however, this is no longer available after the Office365 upgrade. The password will initially be the same one you use at CPIT but any changes you make at CPIT after the upgrade will not be passed through to Office365. New features coming later In addition to email, Office365 will eventually include some new exciting features such as file sharing, instant messaging, and online meetings. Watch this space for further information as it becomes available.
