Information to Empower Filipinos DOH donated P8 million to government-owned hospital in Iligan By: Lorry V. Gabule Wednesday 16th of October 2013 5 2 0 0 1 ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, October 14 (PIA)— The Department of Health donated P8 million for the construction of the comprehensive emergency maternal obstetric and neonatal care building at the Gregorio Lluch Memorial Hospital (GLMH), a government-owned hospital, this city. Assistant Regional Director Adriano P. Suba-an of the Department of Health-Center for Health Development, Northern Mindanao (DOH 10-CHD) Cagayan de Oro City, graced the inauguration and blessing of the new building on October 11, 2013. This P8 million worth building replaces the old obstetrics-neonatal care unit within the city hospital. The construction was awarded to Salvo Construction which started August 2012 and completed in September this year, said Suba-an. The new building comprising the admission area, labor room, delivery room, nursery, ob-gyne operating room, sub-sterile corridor, nurses station, breast-feeding room, pathologic room, and others to complete the designed 15-room working areas, added ARD Suba-an . In his message, Suba-an reiterated the following key thrusts that Health Secretary Enrique T. Ona wanted them to deliver to the locality: Attainment of health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) such as eradicate extreme hunger and poverty; reduce child mortality; improve maternal health; combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases; and ensure environmental sustainability with the extensive roll-out and deployment of community health teams (CHTs) in the locality to ensure availment of all health services among the less fortunate ones; and Increased enrolment to the PhilHealth Sponsored Program especially among those in the first quintile (Q1) population to achieve universal coverage; Access to quality and effective service delivery though the Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP). Suba-an said, DOH aims to build health worker capabilities to better influence local governance for health, stir the entire heath system toward the promotion of health and well-being of its constituents and provide quality, efficient, equitable and accessible health care through a strong multi-sectoral collaborative and coordinative strategy. Meanwhile, Dr. Anita G. Saloma, Chief of GLMH, said equiptment worth P3 million pesos shall be installed in the new center the soonest time possible, so that its full operation will start before the year ends. Two rooms constructed within the hospital amounting P349 thousand were also inaugurated on the same day, donated by the Iliganon Association in California, U.S.A. The activity was also attended by city officials led by Mayor Celso G. Regencia and some Sangguniang Panlungsod members. Mayor Regencia thanked DOH-NorthMin for the assistance that the city acquired from the national level, and committed to support the DOH –Northern Mindanao vision: A Center of Exellence Committed to Local Health System Development to Attain Quality Health Care.
