We are confident that we are cultured enough to treat each guest in a befitted manner. But at the same time, whether the guest also expected to show some minimum courtesy? Isn’t the guest is supposed to respect the sentiments of host also. Normally, in Indian settings, if a guest refuses to take the food offered by the host, it is considered as something shameful; irrespective of whether the guest is US President and the host is Indian president/ PM. If the congress were at the helm of affairs, it was easier to understand the situation as they were famous to their servitude to their US masters. Now, what baffles me is the fact that this full course feast of dishonor is organized by the Government of a party which always boasts of Indian pride. Hesitation to eat the indigenous food and share the limousine with Indian President shows the depth of disdain with which Uncle Sam looks the ‘other’. Is this inherent mistrust and suspicion the root cause of problems the world faces today?
