Inhuman conditions of District court lockup, improvement sought Presenting the dismal picture of police lockup in Lucknow District Court, I and my husband Amitabh Thakur have requested the DGP, UP to undertake suitable measures to improve the situation. In the letter, we have said that the lockup in the Court premises is extremely small sized where a very large number of prisoners are kept in a completely inhuman condition. It is quite dirty and unhygienic. There is no appropriate seating and other arrangements for the police personnel deployed there. The place where they perform their duty is almost completely open. The prisoners often misbehave with the policemen possibly because of the improper conditions which gave the prisoners equally jittery. The policemen on duty said that an ASP and a Circle officer are also deployed for this duty but they never turn up, making the situation worse. We have said that what holds true for Lucknow district court might be true for other districts as well and hence they requested for immediate improvement in the situation
