Initial reaction to Visitors: The visuals alone are stunning, but paired with Glasss score, the movie takes on a new layer of wonderful complication and intrigue. While it attempted to be something different than the Qatsi trilogy that came before it, a comparison is hard to ignore, especially in some of Glasss music that sounds quite similar to Naqoyqatsi in particular. But the central theme of those movies, humankind vs. the natural world, is alive and kicking. Yet this single film does what those previous three could not; present a nuanced and multifaceted take on us (the world and human nature) through a deceptively simple study of the human face. The gaze of those faces is what lends Visitors its strength and penetrating quality.
