Injustice against Sindh It is a known fact that Sindh produces a major proportion of the oil and gas in the country. However, despite this fact, extreme poverty has deepened and unemployment has alarmingly increased in the province. I vividly remember my elders and teachers relating tales of Arabs from different Middle East countries, coming to my resource-rich province, both, for quenching their thirst for knowledge because Sindh used to be a hub of schools, sages and intellectuals, and also to improve their economy. Unfortunately, now the situation has reversed. The wealth of oil and gas has changed the fate and fortune of the Arabs, but exploration and exploitation of these resources in Sindh have not benefited the people of the province at all. There are several oil and gas reservoirs and fields in Sindh, but the doors of employment and economic development are shut to the local people. A plethora of fake degree-holders from other provinces are appointed to top management, technical and other positions in various fields, with their salaries and other perks and privileges amounting to hundreds of thousands of rupees a month, but local, highly talented people, including professional degree-holders, are not hired even for internships or short-term consultations. Is there anyone to remind the management of the OGDCL and other national and multinational oil and gas companies operating in Sindh to stop this discrimination and injustice against the local people by offering them employment opportunities and investing in infrastructure and community development in and around the fields in the province?tribune.pk/story/681562/injustice-against-sindh/ Hashim Abro
