Insaf Media Cell Analysis Brief of Print Media Friday June 21, 2013 Articles: Dawn > by Asha’ar Rehman > STATS-MEN ALL ROUND. The obsession with numbers apart, the sufferings resulting from too much math’s can be hardly compensated by a change in government or a few governments. The annual budget proposal speeches for Punjab, Sindh and KPK were made on the same day and this coincidence facilitated deceptively easy comparisons. Where a break from the past was looked for, the focus by and large was on KP, the starting point of a new Pakistan under the PTI and its coalition partners. The gentleman who presented the budget in Peshawar was a prominent JI politician earlier billed to head the education ministry in the government of CM Pervez Khattak. He missed education and ended up with the portfolio of finance in the wake of criticism by those who couldn’t quite approve of the Jamaat being put in charge of a part of our collective future. Did the fact that Maulvi Sirajul Haq was ‘acceptable’ as the head of finances signify something here? It is only when the question of terrorism is put to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that he comes up with a security assurance to his countrymen. Once the system falls in place, the foreigners will queue up with bagfuls of money to pump into the Pakistani economy. So believes the prime minister, or that is the public impression of him that he wants to create. To be fair to Nawaz Sharif, there are no easy answers here. The theory of the economy as a universal cure is not peculiar to one prime minister or one government, an individual or a group or Pakistanis.
