Insanity. The Left is always trying to meddle with the Founders legacy. As we all know, the Founders were not anarchists; they were rational, orderly libertarians who wanted a civil society that preserves our liberties. This article, featured on Yahoo today, says that were reading the Declaration wrong because of a questionable period after the words pursuit of happiness. Now, lets think about this. Either the emphasis is that God gave us these inalienable rights - period - and so the job of government is to help us keep these rights ... or God gave us these rights - no period - and a government whose job is to help us keep these rights. Do you see a difference? Of course not. But this author thinks shes found a way to elevate government so that its on an even par with our inalienable rights. She says that without the period, government is just as important as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Shes stark raving out of her mind. Libertarians are not opposed to government. we are opposed to government exceeding its authority... which is very clearly and narrowly defined in the Constitution, and can be summarized as a small (as small as possible!), legally authorized organization that exists to help its citizens jealously guard their liberty. The radical left never gives up. Theyre always trying to smear us as wild-eyed anarchists, and theyre always trying to give the impression that the Founding Fathers were actually a lot more like them than like the modern right.
