Insecurity Demonstrations Investigations have been launched on a chief and a politician in Ol moran area in Laikipia West district over an incident in which pupils and students were forced to join demonstrations after a woman was killed by cattle rustlers last week. Laikipia county commissioner Wilson Wanyanga said Wangwaci location Chief Paul Nasky and former Sipili councilor Bernard Ndung’u will be investigated for allegedly inciting some members of the public to invade eleven primary and secondary schools and forced learners to join the demonstration. “I have orders the investigations of these two to commence since we can not allow pupils and students to be dragged into matters of security. We are dealing with the situation of the killing and soon we will arrest those involved,” noted Wanyanga This came after Mary Muthoni 55, and a widow was shot dead by armed rustlers at the village on Friday night where her 16 sheep stolen. The former councilor and who contested Laikipia West constituency seat but lost to Dr Wachira Karani allegedly incited some members of the public to invade the schools, where they caused major damage by throwing stones and broke window panes and poured food. The chief is said to have been illegally selling grass to herders from a neighbouring county and allowing them to graze in absentee landlord land. Ol Moran Ward representative Dann Ndegwa who is also the security committee chairman in County assembly of Laikipia said most of the schools were closed down following the incident. “We are not going to allow politicians to take up the issue of insecurity in the region to acquire political mileage. The two should be investigated and if found guilty taken to court for incitement,” noted Ndegwa He said that the issue of security is a challenge in the region due to the influx of herders from neighbouring counties who are in search of pasture.
