Insert One Early in 2008 my Grandparents & I were involved in a car accident & it resulted in my Grandma breaking bones in both her legs, me having a few minor injuries & my grandpa straining his neck & also a few injuries. I called for help & we got one. We were admitted & I was discharged on the same day as I only had minor injuries & I went to live no mamkhulu wami eThokoza. My Grandma stayed in hospital for 4-6 months & my Grandpa for 2-4months Them seeing each other bought tears to everyone as the last saw each other probably 4 months ago. Dzamn I wouldnt survive. My grandpa saw my grandmas injuries & cried kakhulu. Ukuqala kwami ukubona indoda ikhala. At least ukhalela umkakhe unlike crying 4 someone you hardly know. Fast forward to 2009 My Grandpa fell from a stepladder @ work & hit his head first on the ground. He was taken to a hospital nearby & they said it would cost R10 000 just to transfer him to another hospital. WTF..... 10 grand. Where the hell we supposed to get that kinda money? Anyway out of desperation my family agreed & he was transferred to a hospital in Joburg. The doctors final came to a conclusion that if his chances of surviving are slim. Thursday came & my family(Mom uncle & granny) was called to the hospital @ 3am & I was left behind with neighbours as it was unsafe for me ta be alone. Arrival @ the hospital Reception Mom: Hi we here to see my dads doctor. (By this time the staff knew my fam so there was no need for the docs name) Nurse : Hes in the ICU ward. You can go in Uncle: Thank you Nurse Ward Doctor : Zulu family. Sorry for waking up yall early but we have news Uncle : No prob doc. As long its news about my father we can come anytime Doctor : Well we have bad news. Your father might not survive. Hes got brain damage. And he is living off machines. if he survives he would have to be treated like a new born baby. We wont switch off the machines. We will wait for them to automatically switch off. Uncle : Doc can he hear us when we talk? Doctor : Possibility is yes he can but I doubt it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Uncle : Thank you doc. Granny : Awu BabZulu. Yimi umkakho. Ngiyazi ukuthi uyangizwa. Kuzalunga baba. Mom : Ma lets take you home so uu can rest. Granny : Kodwa ubaba wakho yena? Mom: Hes in good hands Ma. Buthi lets go & on our way Ill let relatives know & we have to let Lesedi hear it from us rather than other people. Uncle : Ma asambe. Baba siya hamba we going home. We will come back later. My grandfather showed a reaction but doctors said its a normal thing. My family got home & that day I didnt go to school. My mom sat me down & explained what the doctor said. Relatives called checking how we doing, neighbours came & checked on us. One thing engiyizondayo about visitors is that they will come unexpected & wena kumele wenze amakhekhe with tea bese they will call you & say Yho yazi itiye lami lichithekile. Cele wenze elinye. In my mind I be like. Dont you have hands? The day went on & night came & we slept. The following morning we woke up. Everything was fine. Izikolo bezivala that day. Can just imagine the excitement. Everything went well @ school. To my surprise when I got home my grandma was there. She didnt go to the hospital nor go to work. Now thats awkward. As always visitors will be coming in & out as if we own some KFC franchise. Now thats awkward. Around 5pm my grandma played a song & after a few minutes it got stuck for like 5mins den played again. Weird neh? Uncle got back from hospital & work. My grandpas sibling was there with his wife & kids (as always). My other grandma walked into my grandmas room & talked to her The house started to be full with people all family members & some people from church. What The Hell Is Going On???
