Insert Pigment Here, The Art of Tattoos, Exhibition For better or for worse, body modification has been used for many things. Among the most popular forms of body modification, tattoos have transcended from markers of rites of passage to elaborate body art defining the bearer’s persona. Whether or not your mother agrees with your decision to mark yourself, there is still a meaningful background behind the art of tattoos. The purpose of this exhibition is to give local tattoo artists the opportunity to elucidate the beauty of body modification and exemplify the process behind the art in a fun, yet professional environment. The Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery sponsors Insert Pigment Here – an exhibition featuring two-dimensional works of art. The exhibition occurs on October 4th – October 18th, 2013 at the Gateway Gallery at the Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery in Oak Park, Michigan. The opening night reception will be held on Friday, October 4th at 7:00 PM. Eligibility Open to anyone 18 years of age or older residing in the state of Michigan. Only two dimensional works, illustrations, and photography will be accepted. Entry Fee The entry fee (non-refundable) is $25.00 for the first 3 pieces of artwork and $5.00 per piece after that, not to exceed 10 entry pieces total. Entry fee is payable either by check, made out to the Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery, or in person via cash or credit/debit card. All major credit cards are accepted. Entry is NOT completed until fee is received. Entry Procedure 1. Entry must be submitted online, by mail, or hand-delivered by September 9th, 2013. Two images (one detail) for two-dimensional art b. Image positioned in upright viewing manner c. Resolution: no less than 72 dpi and no more than300 dpi d. Viewing: no more that 1920 pixels in height or width e. Computer memory: no larger than 1.5 MB f. JPEG image labeled: i. Lastname.firstname.1a, 1b, or 1c (multiple image for same piece) ii. OR lastname.firstname.2a, 2b, or 2c iii. OR lastname.firstname.3a,3b, or 3c iv. Example: Doe.john.1a.jpeg 3. Submit 3 but no more than 10 example works. No slides will be accepted 4. Read the Liability & Terms of Agreement and complete the entry form 5. Send payment by mail post marked by September 9th, 2013. Enclose a non-refundable fee of $25 for the first three pieces of submitted work, and $5 for each piece submitted thereafter, payable to the Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery along with a printed copy of your entry confirmation to the address listed above. Display Requirements • Upon acceptance, all art must be ready for display and received by the Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery one week before the exhibit. • Two dimensional art must be wired and ready for hanging • Brace pieces over 18 x 24 inches • Artists are responsible for stability of artwork • Work inadequately prepared for display will NOT be accepted • Display of accepted work will be determined at time of installation • If discrepancies between accepted JPEG image and delivered work exist, the work may not be included in the exhibition. If the artwork presents unforeseen installation difficulties it will NOT be included in the exhibition. Acceptance and Delivery Procedure • The Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery will notify you by telephone or by e-mail upon acceptance of your work • Artwork must be shipped or arrangements must be made for in-person drop off • If shipped by UPS, Federal Express, US Postal Service, or by any other mail carrier it must be accompanied by a pre-paid return form from the original carrier only, or it cannot be accepted • No checks or cash for return mailing • We recommend insuring your artwork for shipment • Full delivery information will be given to artist whose work is accepted. The Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery and its agents do not assume liability for any loss or damage of any artwork submitted while in its possession. I hereby authorize the Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery to use all accepted works for any and all promotional purposes without charge. After delivery, no art may be removed by the artists from the exhibit until after October 18, 2013. I also understand that the Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery will decuct a 30% commission for the sale of any work during the run of the exhibit. I also understand that after the exhibition all works are expected to be picked up within one week, otherwise the Scharolette Chappell Fine Art Studio & Gallery will charge $40 per day for storing any works. Artworks shipped via any mail carrier must be accompanied with a pre-paid return only, or such artwork will not be accepted. No cash or checks accepted for returning mail.
