Inside Scoop! Oberweis Puts Durbin Under 50% And Continues To Close 6% Gap The Sun-Times poll puts 7% between Oberweis and Durbin, and a 1,000 plus voter poll commissioned by the Oberweis campaign through a respected national polling firm puts 6% between Oberweis and Durbin. Given that there is a 3% margin of error in both polls, we could be tied with Durbin. But we should assume that we are the underdog and continue fighting to switch 4% of likely Illinois voters from the Durbin side to the Oberweis side to insure victory. We can also just get an additional 7% of conservative voters to come out and vote, which would also put Jim over the top. No other challenger to Durbin has ever been as close as Jim Oberweis is to removing Dick Durbin from the Senate in the last 18 years. In August of 1996, 2002 and 2008, Durbin always held a comfortable double digit lead on his Republican challengers. The factors for the closeness of this race are many, including a well-qualified and experienced candidate, confidence in the Republican Party and its candidate for Governor, and the complete implosion of the Democrats after decades of corruption, waste and fiscal irresponsibility. Durbin’s lack of political ethics are legendary, so be prepared for the onslaught of negative ads, false statements and twisted logic that he requires to hold onto his seat given his public record. After 40 years on the public payroll, a desperate man will do desperate things to hold onto to the only income source he can ever remember. Durbin jumped on the government payroll in 1969, and is only second in Illinois to Mike Madigan, who became a taxpayer burden in 1965 and will be celebrating his 50th anniversary on the public payroll next year. Despite any problems Durbin has or how many times Quinn and the Democrats stumble, there are still more Democrats than Republicans in the State of Illinois. We have about 60 days left to get our people organized and out to vote, preferably by sending in their Mail In Ballots beginning September 25th.
