Inside the room. The 3 of us trooped to 6am mass in the misty weather, the other 2 will go to their churches later in the day. One of the two is my 1st year roomie year that went to nightclass. She was still bent over her books when we returned from church. Our conversation began. From lastnights leftover gist to this mornings homily at the church. As i was pulling off my clothes, a gigantic bloodsucker mosquito whizzed by, i terminated it. See blood. Our blood. Chai! Diarizgodo. A new argument began. Is mosquito a carnivorous animal or not since it sucks human blood? I insisted that since it belongs to kingdom animalia, it is. Others stuck to insect. Without a connection, one of us directed this question to the Imminent 1st class of the room, the nightclasser whose field is in biological sciences. Is plantain a fruit? See me and my olodo brain. I replied. How can plantain be a fruit? It is a carbohydrate. But thanks to Uzor, the nightclasser. She came to my rescue. She began. It is a fruit. But, a false fruit. Hmm. False fruit. She went further to name banana, apple and pineapple as part of the false fruits. Biko, i had to ask a question. How does one classify a false fruit? And what does she mean by a false fruit? Can you imagine, true and false fruit? Ha! Na wa o. She began again. False fruits are those that are not formed only by ovary (stigma) and stamen, but are also aided by other flowering parts like receptacle. Majorly, the fruits dont come from the seeds, but from other parts. While true fruits come from coming together of ovary and stamen. Some plants are monecious and diecious. Haaa! Okay. That was how our chat turned to tutorial of plants and its way of reproduction. Everyday is a teacher. Happy sunday.
