Insidenova reports - The proposal will still need to be submitted to the DOJ for approval. Also, because the plan is so new, school division staff did not have an updated map to detail the exact boundary lines and could not tell school board members exactly how the revisions would alter projected demographics at any of the affected high schools. “We’re going to have to go back and actually calculate the data,” Prince William County Schools Communications Chief Keith Imon said in an interview after the vote. “It’s going to take a little bit of time, I’m confident, but we’ll have to continue to research the numbers and contact the DOJ, and that will be forthcoming.” Several school board members expressed concern about voting on a plan without having the demographic specifics. So....the paid school division staff was not able to generate the map or demographics in time for the School Board to make an informed decision or for the the citizens to feel adequately informed. Gil Trenum said at the meeting that he was unable to see the changes in wording on his screen so when he voted he had to trust that what was written was what he remembered Milt reading out loud. Even Milt had to reread it a second time to correct what he wrote the first time. Well thankfully an unpaid citizen was able to generate a map, maybe the school board should have asked her to do the job that is going to take a little bit of time for the staff. schoolmapper/pwc/projects/12th_high_school/map.php?plan=the_plan
