Insightful editorial from the RH Liberals Marney Beck - In my opinion, we need to seriously consider specific ways and means to increase, not only voter turnout at election time, but general civic engagement by our residents throughout the years. And as the newly elected and incoming Ward 5 Councillor, as soon as I am sworn in and get to work as Ward 5 Councillor Cilevitz, I intend to put into place a number of measures to encourage and nurture greater civic engagement amongst our Ward 5 residents: 1. I will be establishing a Ward 5 Citizens Task Force made up of Ward 5 community leaders and any resident who wishes to participate at this grassroots level - This citizens task force will meet quarterly and act as a think-tank to guide best efforts for a better, more sustainable Ward 5. 2. I will hold quarterly meetings with all leaders of Ward 5 registered residents associations / groups to enable me, as the elected representative of our Ward, to be best informed and best engaged in any and all matters and concerns directly impacting our Ward 5 residents and Ward 5 actual. 3. I will hold quarterly informal meetings Ward-wide meetings with all interested residents to continue the conversations held as a candidate. I believe these continuing and ongoing informal information gathering and disseminating discussion forums with my Ward 5 residents will provide a much needed touchstone to greater civic understanding and more fulsome residents civic engagement. And that is just the beginning, Ward 5! :D
