Inspiration: “But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard--things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way.” Galatians 5:22-23, The Message Bible Insight: One of the most important lessons we can ever learn is not to give up when times seem tough and the going gets rough. We must not allow ourselves to be controlled by our environment or emotions which may change as often as the weather. The even-tempered man and woman with a steady will keeps going in the midst of challenging circumstances, cynics, critics, and crisis. In fact, the optimistic person who keeps his or her faith focused on what can be rather than what is, will surely transform obstacles into opportunities for growth, development and productivity. Having Gods Spirit gives us access to love (unconditional acceptance of and compassion for others despite their response to us), temperance (self-control), meekness (intestinal fortitude and strength under control), and mental toughness (inner peace and soundness of mind that is unaffected by outward conditions). When we determine to stand and to keep on standing, and to go and to keep on going, we possess the key to unlock the best that life has to offer because we have learned to give the best of ourselves as God handles the rest. Prayer to Ignite Action: Heavenly Father, today I ask that You would cultivate the fruit of the Holy Spirit in my life. I accept and apply Your love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness, faith, meekness and temperance. I know that I am only responsible for my own decisions and actions as I am led by You, and I will not allow the decisions and actions of others to blemish my character or bruise the fruit of the Spirit working in me. I pray in advance for others who do not know You, and ask that Your Spirit would draw them into relationship with You as the God who loves and desires to provide for their needs. Use me as a conduit of Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen. ImJustSayingthebook.org
