Inspiration and Gratitude: So I go to the gym today and I hit the stationary bike for a quick warm up before hitting the weights. On the bike next to me was this guy in his early sixties. He is riding the bike in street clothes and boat shoes. he is peddling in slow motion. I am thinking to myself, the guys not getting in shape this way and whats up with the street duds, clearly against the rules of the gym. So I plug in the ear buds and start peddling away. I am flipping through the channels on the bike tube and stop on Pawn Stars. At this point the guy strikes up a conversation and says that he loves that show. I politely take out the buds and he continues to talk. I am thinking that I dont have time for this as I am trying to get in a quick lunch break workout. He says his name is Burton and can tell right away that I am not from Texas. He proceeds to tell me his life story. I guess he could tell that I am thinking what the heck are you doing here if your not going to push yourself. He tells me about an accident that he had on a tractor and how he broke his neck crushing his C4&5.He says that he couldnt move at all for a month and the docs said that hed never walk again. This sparks some real interest in me. He then talks of God and how everyday he feels so blessed. Our conversation winds down and I hit the weights. I then see Burt get up from the bike with the help of a cane. The mans whole body is twisted like a pretzel. It take him twenty minutes to cross the gym and get into his truck. I forgot to say he was injured 30 years ago. As I continue my work out I cant help to think that this guy is most likely living in daily pain and can hardly move. I think to myself that this is true witness to the line, Never ever give up and praise the lord for his blessings. I push the weights a bit hard and have gratitude and inspiration from a complete but kindly stranger. Thanks Burt for talking to me today. I am inspired. I hope to see Burt again.
