Installment No. 18 -- recording artists affected by pancreatic cancer: Bill Hicks was a profane, offensive, provocative, and extremely funny man. As a social critic, he was intentional in his comedy. He didnt mince words, but his timing was excellent, which was part of his charm. He was extraordinarily talented, though it took many folks a while to come around to recognizing it -- including his own parents. Bill Hicks was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on June 16, 1994. He continued to perform and record -- all the while undergoing chemotherapy. He died of pancreatic cancer at his parents home in Little Rock, Arkansas, on February 26, 1994. He was just 32 years old. Hicks was so provocative that even David Letterman censored him at one point. In an appearance on Late Night on October 1, 1993, Hicks act was cut before it aired. In 2009, Letterman invited Hickss mother onto the show, did a serious mea culpa, and showed Hickss performance:
