Insurgency: Declare full scale state of emergency in Yobe, Borno, Owie urges Jonathan - FORMER Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Rowland Owie, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Assembly to declare what he described as “full scale state of emergency in Yobe and Borno States,” due to the persistent killings in those areas. Owie, who said that the country could not continue to condone the killing of innocent Nigerians and persistent violence perpetrated by the Boko Haram sect, added that the killings may persist unless military administrators were posted in both states and total state of emergency enforced in the areas. He said: “With what is happening now in Yobe and Borno states, it is clear that kid gloves can’t solve the problem in those states. I hereby, call on the President and the National Assembly to declare full scale emergency in Yobe and Borno states and military administrators be appointed there. Enough is enough of bloodletting. When Chief Olusegun Obasanjo acted likewise in Plateau State, heavens did not fall. “Those perpetrating this evil are only out to destroy and make the nation and the people of those states uncomfortable, which is bad. We cannot continue to accept violence; we need to take drastic action in these areas, so that this sort of violence does not snowball into something more serious that could envelop the entire country. It is time the country use its military strength to stop the killings.”
