Insurgency: Governor Shettima pleads with friends,associates over adverts on 48 birthday Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has sent messages to friends, family members, political associates and companies dealing with Borno appealing to them against sponsoring goodwill messages on Newspapers, Magazines, Television and Radio on he marked his 48th birthday on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. A media associate of the Governor, Isa Gusau, said the Governor had circulated the message since last week through personal means but decided to use the mass media now after seeing a paid advert in some Newspapers yesterday sponsored by some well wishers, acting though in good faith but in defiance of the Governors appeal. The Governor had since last week directed appointees and pleaded with so many friends, families, political associates, appointees and companies dealing with Borno State requesting them not to place any advert as they did in previous years over his 48th birthday mainly because the Governor feels celebration of any kind on his behalf for the purpose of birthday is outright insensitivity to the plight of Borno citizens, many of whom are troubled by the insurgency crisis. The Governor was actually embarrassed on Tuesday (yesterday) when he saw some advert placements, congratulating him for attaining 48 years of age. The Governor believes the message was placed by those who might not have received his initial appeal and as such uses the media to appeal to others that may choose to follow suite. Governor Shettima strongly thinks he doesnt have the luxury of marking a birthday with all the killings of innocent citizens and destruction of communities. He however pleaded with anyone desirous of placing adverts on his birthday to kindly channel the funds to victims of insurgency in different camps within and outside Borno or to use the funds to organize prayer sessions for the return of peace in Borno and the rest of Nigeria.
