Integrated cultivation of Mangrove and Shrimp Vietnam is successfully checked the deforestation of Mangrove by introducing integrated cultivation of mangrove with shrimp culture, they have divided the mangrove forests area into three distinct zone namely 1. critically protected Area zone, meant for only mangrove to grow which is about 1 km from the coast, 2. next about 4 km width has been maintained as protected zone where farmers are allowed to grow limited shrimp keeping about 60% of the area allotted to them under mangrove coverage. 3. rest of the coastal mangrove forests has been declared as production zone where farmers are allowed for shrimp culture but they encouraged to maintain the mangrove forests through some incentives. Here they produce organic shrimp for which they receive 10% enhanced price, and the mangrove forests beside the canals reducing the cost of fish meal. part of the sale proceeds are given to the farmers as extra incentive. Here mangrove are harvested for charcoal production at the age of 15 years. Such an initiative can be applied in the coastal belt of Noakhali, Coxsbazar, Chittagong, Bhola, Patuakhali and Barguna Districts of Bangladesh. IUCN Bangladesh has arranged a field visit of concerned agencies of Bangladesh to observe the experience in Viet Nam from 10 to 13 December.
