Interaction session of Service holders held at #Gulmarg Nobody would be allowed to defame hospitality of #Kashmir: Mir #Gulmarg mainstay of local economy: G.H.Mir #Gulmarg, July 7: With a view to ensure hassle-free services to the tourists at #Gulmarg destination besides seeking suggestion and discuss several matters related to the conservation and growth of this world famous destination an interaction session between the representatives of various tourism trade stakeholders and Officers of Tourism department was held here under the chairmanship of Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir. Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir, who is also the representative of the area, was present in the meeting. During the session the representatives of service holders including the representatives of hotels, tour and travel operators, pony walls, skiing, tourist guide associations besides , taxi, sumo, and other transport associations raised several demands pertaining to the betterment of their trades besides gave suggestion to safeguard the rich environs of this heritage destination of the Valley. The representative’s of tourism stakeholders assured the government for their full cooperation to provide the better hospitality facilities to the tourists besides to work in tandem for protection of rich environs of the destination. The Officers of Tourism Department including Commissioner Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Atul Duloo, Director Tourism Kashmir, District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Deputy Inspector General Of Police Baramulla and Kupwara Range, Managing Director J&K Cable Car Corporation, Chief Executive Officer Gulmarg Development Authority, Managing Director JKTDC, informed the meeting about different initiatives taken by the government for carrying out different tourist activities besides protection of the environs of the destination. The matters like regulation of traffic, market checking, sanitation, hospitality, development of neighboring tourist spots, eco- tourism infrastructure, development of parking slots, pony tracks, construction of alternate roads, besides formulation of Master plan came under discussion during the session. Addressing on the occasion, the Tourism Minister said the hospitality and high quality service to tourists which has remained the traditional trait of the people of the Valley should be maintained under all circumstances and its impact should be visible from the faces of visitors. The Tourism Minister cautioned that nobody should be allowed to cheat the tourists and defame the age old hospitality of people of the State. He said that such culprits should be brought under the bars and directed the concerned authorities to keep close vigil against such elements, who for their personal means defame and effect tourism growth the backbone of States’ economy. The Tourism Minister directed concerned authorities to prepare perspective plan with futuristic strategy for preservation and development of #Gulmarg and its vicinity serene and adventure spots. He instructed for up keeping of Gulmarg bowel and other spots of the destination and directed Managing Director, JKCCC to ensure lifting of garbage at different sites of Gondola within weeks’ time. The Minister asked Service holders of Gulmarg to ensure quality services to the tourists with genuine rate of boarding, lodging besides fare charges of ponies and transport. He directed that only registered service holders should provide the necessary facilities to the tourists and it should be ensured that no tourist is cheated by charging high rates. The Minister directed the CEO, Gulmarg Development Authority to identify the land for construction of Solid waste management plant. He also directed for formulation of vision document with consultation of local stakeholders for enlisting in Master plan for approval of the government. He also instructed hotel owners for installation of STPs. Minister for Agriculture, Mr Ghulam Hassan Mir while highlighting the distinct tourism potential of Gulmarg said it was the mainstay of local economy. He underscored the need of exploring fully the potential of Drang, Batapathari and other serene spots of the destination, which he said that not only ease the rush of tourists at Gulmarg but further boost the economy of the area.He said that it is the duty of all of us to save the rich environs of Gulmarg besides to provide better hospitality to the tourists. Mir called upon the stakeholders of tourism trade and concerned departments to keep close coordination with each other and solve the issues amicably. He said that best service providers be identified and encouraged by the government while those given bad name to the State hospitality should be punished under law. He also underscored the need for providing capacity building training to the youth under different trades of tourism for ensuring better services to the tourists. He also stressed for improvement and upgradation of road connectivity, drinking water and power supply at the destination.
