Interaction with Distinguished Alumnus Award Winners 2014 An interaction of Distinguished Alumnus Award Winners 2014 with graduating students was organized at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani Campus in the auditorium of New Academic Building on Saturday, 19th July 2014, on the eve of Convocation 2014 . The following BITS Distinguished Alumni participated in the interaction : Prof. Gurindar S. Sohi (Professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison), Dr. Chandra Shekhar (Director, CEERI, Pilani), Mr. Pradeep Kashyap (Founder and CEO, MART). These alumni were among the selected group of five alumni who were conferred Distinguished Alumnus Awards at Convocation 2014 for excellence in various fields such as teaching, research, professional management of business, social entrepreneurship. In their addresses, the three distinguished alumni congratulated the graduating students on completing their degree programs and emphasized on self-belief, passion, perseverance, importance of visualizing future and they gave examples from their own experiences. The graduating students asked a few questions: should the young take risk in life or achieve their target or accept in life what it offers? The alumnus responded by saying that if the risk is worth, then one should go ahead with passion, honesty and integrity. And in response to the need for patents, the alumni said that patent is required to protect intellectual property rights; to a query about the success rate of commercialization between educational institutes and industries in India , alumni said that that it is on the path of growth. In the beginning, Prof G Raghurama, Director BITS, Pilani, Pilani campus welcomed gathering which included BITS Vice-Chancellor B.N. Jain, Padma Bhushan Sri. S. Ramadorai, Chairman, National Skill Development Agency and Vice Chairman, Tata Consultancy Services, the Chief Guest at Convocation 2014, Prof K E Raman, Director, Goa Campus and Chairman, Alumni Affairs Division, BITS, Pilani, Prof V S Rao, Director, Hyderabad Campus, Prog G Sunder, Director, Director, Off - Campus Programmes and Industry Engagement, Sri Kris Ramachandran, Adviser to the Chancellor, and many faculty members apart from graduating students and their families. Prof, Arya Kumar, Faculty In-charge, Alumni Cell, BITS, Pilani, Pilani Campus gave a brief introduction of distinguished alumnus. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. B.N. Jain, Vice-chancellor thanked all the Alumni and the Chief Guest Sri S. Ramadorai for their visit to the campus. In the end, Prof. Arya Kumar requested Sri Ramodorai, to present mementos to the Distinguished Alumni. Finally, Prof K.E. Raman delivered the vote of thanks.
