Interceding for a friend during this Christmastide: Josef Ng Sing Chor wrote on WeChat yesterday: A day from tomorrow will be the 10th year anniversary of the Asian tsunami where in Phuket island alone, a natural catastrophe of more than ten of thousands of beach goers fell victim to the swamping waves. In Bangkok, we could also feel the effect of the earthquake. I did have Thai close friends distant family being one of those buried souls. Its been a decade. On hindsight and looking back as a person and a volunteer who helped to pack and distribute food aid to the affected families and individuals in Phuket during that time, those memories were deeply personal, warm yet filled with sorrows, and full of stories. And being a struggling curator and critic - poor, happy and writing in Internet shops and cafés, I discovered my full vocation. Most of all, being alive and lively in a city that scintillates with the kindness and tranquility of human nature and soulfulness. Thats my Thailand. My heart and remembrance to the tragedy 10 years ago in Phuket. I am fortunate to have lived till now as a not-so-young man and to my colleagues, friends, enemies, loved ones, have a blessed Christmas and new year. Please forgive me for hurting you and you know, its never my intentions. Were only human. Id like to add: Humans should remain kind while politicians, who believe nation-building is the be-all and end-all of the peoples existence thats indebted to them, belong to the realm of extra-terrestrials and super-heroes (call in The Joker!). Where was I in the issue of kindness...?
