Interested in helping at next year’s Regional Summer Games in Midland? The Ontario 55+ Summer Games are a celebration of active living uniting participants 55 and older in a multi-sport environment. The competition was held over two days, August 20 and 21st , in Windsor/Amherstburg with more than 1,400 athletes and 18 sports. The Opening Ceremonies were packed with attendees. The sports activities included: 5 Pin Bowling, Bocce, Bridge, Carpet Bowling, Cribbage, Cycling, Darts, Contract & Bid Euchre, Golf, Horseshoes, Pickleball, Shuffleboard, Slo-Pitch, Squash, Swimming, Tennis and Walking. Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports for seniors. 145 participants entered the doubles tournament in Men’s 55+ and 65+, Women’s 55+ and 65+ and Mixed 55+ and 65+ divisions. Bill McCartney and Jerry Lorentz of Simcoe County District 28 won the gold medal in the Men’s 55+ division. Pickleball is for all seniors. A player from the Chatham district, aged 89 played in the 65+ Mixed Doubles. He with his partner won a few games. The 2015 Regional Ontario Seniors Games will be held in Midland in September 2015.
