Interested in how seriously professional players take their physical conditioning and well being? This video taken during Bayern Munich’s winter training trip to Doha shows a little of what goes on behind the scenes to get players ready for the level of performance that we saw Bayern deliver against Arsenal last week. Arjen Robben and Bastian Schweinsteiger, both at an advanced stage of rehabilitation after injury, are put through their paces by Bayern’s strength and conditioning coach. Robben was returning from a knee injury, Schweinsteiger from an ankle problem. Both have since returned to play. Notice just how specific the training is to the injury that is being rehabilitated, emphasising control in the knees and ankles with fast movement and sudden controlled stops during drills before resisted movements and finally some running. While obviously not as enjoyable as ball work, recognise the concentration of both players on what it is they are doing. They know what is required at this level and are willing to put in this sort of specific work, off by themselves while the rest of the squad train or rest elsewhere. It is always a temptation to rush ahead and try and progress in everything as quickly as possible. This is a great example to any young players of two of the best midfielders in the world, both under intense pressure to be playing at their best in every game, recognising the process that is involved in attaining the required fitness levels and training accordingly. youtube/watch?v=5OEnQLmS7oY #speeddevelopmenttips #youthfootball #aspiringelite #speedforfootball #sprinttraining #results #professionalcoaching #professionalfootball #strengthandconditioning #training #fitness #personaltraining #accelerateperformancecoaching
