Interested in joining the AFHC Board, now is your chance. Applications for the ballot for the 2014 AFHC Board Elections are due Sunday, February 16th at midnight. Interested persons should submit the name of the position (one only) they are seeking, and a 200 word bio/stump speech to [email protected]. Candidates are encouraged to attend the February Chapter meeting on 2/18/2014 to deliver stump speeches and will be expected to attend the March Board meeting on 3/4/2014. Available positions include the following: 2014 OPEN BOARD POSITIONS 1 Position each (2 year term) -Co-Chair of the Board -Co-Director of Outreach -Co-Director of Communications -Co-Director of Special Programs -Co-Director of Finance 1 Position (1 year term special election) -Co-Director of Communications RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD - Support and refine organizations mission and purpose - Provide continuity for the organization - Ensure effective organizational planning, and adequate resources - Provide for fiscal accountability, approve the budget, and formulate policies related to contracts from public or private resources - Determine and monitor the organizations programs and services. Accept responsibility for all conditions and policies attached to new, innovative, or experimental programs. - Enhance the organizations public image EXPECTATIONS OF BOARD MEMBERS - Attend 75% of board meetings and 50% chapter meetings. - Contribute 10-20 hours per month of non-project related work including administration, outreach and meetings. - Be available to attend occasional workday meetings, lunches, or conference calls, as well as special meetings. - Be able to network and publicly speak on behalf of the organization. - Have personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Architecture for Humanity Chicago’s beneficiaries through good design. - Have prior experience with leadership accomplishments in design, business, government, the community, or the nonprofit sector. - Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal. - Have 3+ years professional experience. CHAIR Captain of making it happen Responsibilities - Governance: Coordinate/Evaluate/Review/Monitor activity of the board of directors - Leadership: Guide the mission and direction of the chapter - Development: Develop and maintain relationships with project partners and organizations for the continued growth of the chapter - Oversight: Review outcomes and metrics for evaluating organizational impact - Stewardship: Ensure dedication to, and use of assets for, the benefit of the public Additional Requirements - Distribute, collect, and maintain records of service grant applications - Discuss terms of agreement, roles and responsibilities of project teams and partners with project teams and partners - Oversee the drafting and maintain records of MOU’s and any other written agreements with project partners - Coordinate monthly agendas for and preside over board meetings and special meetings of the Board of Directors - Assign/distribute tasks to board members as necessary - Act as liaison between National Headquarters and the Board of Directors in concert with the Managing Director - In partnership with the managing director, provide a primary contact for the chapter when required for publication, speaking engagements and other public relation activities Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications: - 5+ years professional experience - Licensed professional preferred but not required COMMUNICATIONS Town Crier Responsibilities - Responsible for all internal chapter communication and manages external communications. - Maintain main email address for the chapter and manage chapter contacts, including chapter meeting reminder emails, call for volunteer emails, and external info request emails. - Manages coordinatIon of project documentation through the Open Architecture Network - Along with Outreach Directors and Managing Director, coordinate unified marketing strategies for the chapter - Responsible for the implementation/distribution of marketing materials - Maintain and update chapter presence on social media sites including the Chapter Network, Facebook, and Twitter. OUTREACH 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon Responsibilities - Be an active member of the Chicago design community as a representative of Architecture for Humanity Chicago. - Act as a direct representative of Architecture for Humanity Chicago at social events - Along with Communications Directors and Managing Director, coordinate unified marketing strategies for the chapter - Meet with prospective and current project partners and community memebers to discuss potential projects and new opportunities and report back to the Chairs of the Board. - Coordinate monthly agendas for and preside over chapter meetings SPECIAL PROGRAMS Work Hard, Play Hard Responsibilities - Along with the Managing Director, identify new areas or projects that could improve the Chapter’s ability to carry out its mission. - Plan Chapter events, including the Holiday Hangover (annual Member meeting) - Coordinate Chapter educational initiatives (e.g. classes, seminars, conferences, events) - Coordinate with Directors of Finance to plan and execute fundraising events. - Coordinate with Headquarters for any joint events FINANCE Show Me the Money Responsibilities - Oversee chapter finances and track and report chapter income and expenditures to the board on a regular basis. - Manage cash flow, ensure compliance with applicable financial policies and regulations, and anticipates future chapter expenditures. - Responsible for leading efforts to bring more resources into the chapter, including but not limited to fundraising, grant writing, and securing in-kind donations. - Ensure chapter donors are thanked in an appropriate and a timely manner. -- View this post in your browser here: chapters.architectureforhumanity.org/updates/3926
