Michigan Supreme Court State Court Administrative Office Detroit, MI 48202 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Jacqueline Poindexter (313) 972-3286 MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE Volunteers are needed to serve on the Wayne County Foster Care Review Board. The Michigan Foster Care Review Board Program consists of 27 local boards throughout the state. Each board is comprised of dedicated citizens who represent a broad cross-section of their communities. Local boards meet one day a month to review cases of children who have been removed from their home and placed in foster care due to abuse or neglect. The purpose of the review is to support the local courts and child placing agencies in their efforts to ensure the safety and well being of the children while they are in foster care, and facilitate a plan for them to return to a safe, stable, and permanent family as soon as possible. Applicants must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma, good reading skills and a passion to serve your communities most vulnerable children and families. Employees of the Department of Human Services, family courts, or private child placement agencies are prohibited by law from serving on Foster Care Review Boards. The Foster Care Review Program is administered through the State Court Administrative Office of the Michigan Supreme Court. Board members receive orientation and ongoing training, mileage and meal reimbursement.
