Lead Solution Architect Job Position Details Buyer Reference Site NY-New York (Wall St Plaza) (108) Location NY-New York (Wall St Plaza) (108) Work Location Wall Street Plaza 88 Pine Street New York Job Summary: The Lead Solution Architect will have the opportunity to collaborate and grow leadership experience developing solutions for a leading property and casualty insurer. A strong candidate will be a proven lead developer looking to expand responsibility into an architecture role focused on documenting and review solution design artifacts for Information Technology (IT) projects. The selected resource will have exposure to wide group of people working daily with internal and external contributors, translating business requirements, adhering to architecture and security standards and producing Disaster Recovery (DR) action plans to deliver innovative, high-quality and cost-effective solutions that meet business needs. Key Responsibilities: • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the IT architectural roadmap by performing security assessments and producing and evaluating solution designs for internal projects • Drive conceptual design strategies by reviewing architecture work products to ensure quality, traceability, effectiveness and timeliness of the solution design process • Partner with business stakeholders and project teams to translate business and technical requirements into detailed solution designs which incorporate people, process and technology aspects • Present solution deigns at all required stages to the Solution Architecture Review Committee • Liaise among third-party solution developers and internal key stakeholders by reviewing and providing input on third-party developed solution designs and security assessments • Support the impact analysis of solution designs for changing business requirements • Support information security principles by designing secure solutions and adhering to security standards and guidelines • Generate and/or update DR action plans to meet business recovery objectives as defined by the business continuity process • Support the maintenance of business and application domain architecture by collaborating with enterprise architecture subject matter experts and third-party application architects • Serve as a functional and technical expert for an application, a defined set of applications or a portfolio of related applications • Manage budgeted resources by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting resource needs/costs and properly accounting for expenses to meet requirements and achieve fiscal responsibility • Contribute to a positive environment by demonstrating cultural expectations and guiding leaders to reward performance and value “can do” people, accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity and fun • Adopt QBE values in personal work behaviors, decision-making, contributions and interpersonal interactions; manage own career development by soliciting feedback and valuing other perspectives Required Education / Experience: • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience • 8+ years relevant experience o Experience as an Application Architect o Experience in Insurance Industry including P&C and/or Specialty lines Preferred Qualifications Experience • Experience in IT security and architectural functions Knowledge • Advanced working knowledge of technology to control and safeguard the collection, organization, structure, processing and delivery of data • Advanced understanding of common software architectures, including layered and distributed architecture models • Working knowledge of configuration and adaptation, deployment, design patterns, risk management and scalability • A strong background in ecommerce focused system integration including EDI and web services is preferred Skills • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills are a must • Developed capacities used to design, set-up, operate and correct malfunctions involving application of machines or technological systems • Demonstrated practice of keeping current with new and emerging tools and technologies relevant to solution design • Effectively present information to influence organizational leaders and key stakeholders • Quickly understand, orient to, and learn new assignments • Critically review, analyze, synthesize, compare and interpret information • Conduct gap analysis of current state and desired future state; identify impact of a given decision • Recent lead development experience including Java or .Net and a middleware tool similar to WebSphere Integration Server or webMethods is preferred • Data tool experience including IBM DataStage, Cognos, SAS, or Business Objects would be a plus • Abilities • Determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations and the environment will affect outcomes • Use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems • Collaborate with people at different levels within the organization to accomplish a common goal • Creativity and alternative, open thinking to generate and support new or better ways of doing things • Identify connections between issues Must be able to thrive in a dynamic and high-pressure environment Work Environment Travel • Infrequent (approximately 1-4 trips annually)
