Interesting Christmas conversations. I was with some very liberal family members where I just listen to avoid conflict. Here are some things I heard. Big Bertha is a joke, the I-520 debacle is a joke, Washington politicians are some of the worst in the country and should be replaced. There was serious outrage over Big Bertha. Theres nowhere to park in Seattle & its too expensive, tolls are too high, buses dont work and we need more lanes so businesses that have to move inventory & equipment dont have so much down time. A fellow who works for a company that installs security systems said government paperwork, red tape and bureaucracy are strangling business and stealing from families. Regulations add thousands to the cost of a security system in a private business. The cost of a system in a building that houses a federal agency will go from $70K to over $200K just for all the paperwork and extra regulations. Its crazy how much we let the federal government take from us and control us. A small business owner said regulations are strangling his business and the parking situation in Seattle is hurting him badly. The general consensus was government isnt the solution, government is the problem. Then, later, a different liberal said there is no difference between the two parties, regulations are written without even a vote, lobbyists control passage of laws and regulations while people in both parties get rich regulating small business out of existence and taxing families into poverty. I cant remember a time, ever, when Ive agreed with these people on public policy before. Have I moved into an alternate universe or has it finally gotten so bad that conservatives and liberals (the nasty & irrelevant fringe) are actually on the same page? Is there hope that the government nabobs have finally gone too far?
