Interesting Godfather tidbits. 1. Coppola wanted Pacino for the role of Michael Corleone. It took so long for the movie execs to agree that he accepted another movie role during the process. Coppola traded another actor to that movie part to get Pacino in The Godfather. That actor, Robert DeNiro. He was billed to play Don Corleones driver. 2. Coppola originally turned down the movie after reading the book. Once he got to the part where Sonnys mistress fooled around with a priest, he stopped reading and declined. 3. Original movie budget was $2 mil. After Coppola explained his vision, execs bumped the budget to $6 mil, and it went back to being a period piece. 4. The original Godfather made twice as much as its budget before the movie ever opened up in theaters.
