Interesting. I received an email from my 1st grade teacher when I attended Clay Elementary in Mpls. She is sending me my 1st grade photo...and also a clipping about the time I was kidnapped. Yes...I was kidnapped once. We were living in the Seven Corners area at the time. Me and a friend were playing on the sidewalk, a car pulled up, a white guy asked if we wanted to go get some candy, we jumped in his car, and he took us for a ride. Apparently, some neighbors saw what happened, called the police immediately, and in the meantime we were cruising around the streets of East Franklin Ave. By then, I was scared because we had passed stores that had candy and I was wondering what this guy was doing. After maybe a half-hour or so, he pulled over and let me out of the car, and drove off with my friend. I started walking home and a police car pulled up, put me in the back seat, and drove me home. The street outside our apartment was filled with people, reporters, and cops. Of course, the cops asked me all kinds of questions - what did he look like, what kind of car, etc. I couldnt really tell them much...I mean, Im like 6 years-old. Then about 15-20 minutes later, they found my friend abandoned on a street corner in South Minneapolis. They never found the abductor, but I did learn a lesson the hard way about strangers. Whenever I watch the movie Mystic River, Im always reminded, uncomfortably, of what could have happened.
