Interesting! This month, I have been wondering where the flowers are on our numerous lantana bushes . Anyway, yesterday, I discovered the answer. Goldfinches!! I noticed a large number of goldfinches hopping busily around in the lantanas.. Im thinking they must be eating the dried berries left over from last month. Then, I realized while some of them were getting the berries, a lot of them were busy eating the new flower buds!!!! I was fascinated and watched the goldfinches for a good while! Ive not seen that feeding behavior before, have you? (pic on left shows bird with flower mouthfull!! pic on right = bird eating berry..)
