Interesting... Well over-the-top in its deconstruction, but still interesting. Speaking for my own writings, I never think THIS deeply about what is being portrayed in my stories for fear it would get in the way of constructing an organic narrative. Still, in Uzzahs Wells, Malloy did embody the sins of the three Cobb brothers: Toms self-pity & fear, Joes drunken sloth and Billys shiftlessness; so maybe Baum did take all these socio-political representations into consideration in his works.
