Interesting article from Forbes Magazine posted here for discussion purposes. The article contains some great news about the federal budget deficit. The author makes the point that the deficit has disappeared not because it is gone, but because politicians on both sides dont talk about it as an issue anymore. Ive been actively observing current affairs since I was a kid. Whats fascinating to me is that, especially these days, people are very cynical about good news. Simply put, many people just dont believe good news. They will argue that its just propaganda for one side or the other. Theres always been some of this, but theres a lot of this now. My perception is that trust in government has never fully recovered from the Watergate scandal. Regardless of the cynicism, as a parent, Im very glad the deficit is going down. I dont want my son and his generation to inherit an outrageous national debt. There is still much work to be done and tough choices to be made. In particular, we have to repeal sequestration so that we can make smart choices on both the civilian and military sides of the ledger. Yet, it does look like we are over the worst part of the recession and that we have turned the corner on the deficit issue. I look forward to helping make America stronger than ever.
