Interesting bird case of the day: This pet duck ate 4 coins off the floor in his house and was sick from zinc poisoning as his stomach acid dissolved the metal. After unsuccessfully trying to retrieve the coins with grasping forceps passed down from his crop to his proventriculus (first part of the stomach), we had to open up his abdomen and cut open the proventriculus to get them out. With the help of some chelating medication to bind and remove the metal particles in his bloodstream, he made a full recovery and now his owners are careful to keep little items like coins off the floor!
