Interesting candidate debate last night. Very limited time to answer questions so the audience would assume the most important issues would be covered. Instead, the first two questions were about the mall. The mall. A third question was about improving relationships and that was important. The last question was about schools, another vital topic. No questions about poverty, how to bring higher-paying jobs, economic development, expanding our tax base, crime, water and sewer expansion, I-85 business development, retail leakage, county employee and school teacher wage competitiveness, infrastructure and technology improvements, permitting, inspections and regulatory reform, workforce development, unemployment, etc. Odd. But, we did get two questions on the mall. I made the comment last night that part of our problem as a community is that we dont seem to have leaders who can move us beyond the small issues and help the community focus their attention and collective energies on solving our most critical issues. Then, last night.... Two of the four questions... The mall... Perhaps our community is not being allowed to focus on the real issues. Just a thought. What do you think?
