Interesting case in the office this morning. Tiger is an inside kitty who had escaped and been gone for a couple days, when he came home he had a swollen forepaw. That is a very common history for a cat with an infected/abscessed bite wound, and thats what I thought we would find when we examined Tiger. I was wrong. Examining the significantly swollen paw, we found a small green rubber band around the leg, just above his carpal (wrist) joint. It was cutting off circulation to the paw, and as you can see it was beginning to dig into the skin. Thankfully, Tigers owner did not delay in bringing him in, as he could easily have lost his paw had the band stayed in place longer. A few hours after taking the band off, the swelling has gone down greatly and he is feeling much better!
