Interesting comments by Bill Maher on the state of current political movements: I understand why the richest 1% votes Republican. They deserve those votes. They represent the richest 1% perfectly. So I understand why they vote Republican. Anybody else who does? Just Corporate Americas useful idiots. I dont know that Id go quite that far (altho its sort of provably true) - but middle-class folks who vote Republican these days (maybe not in Eisenhowers time) are certainly voting against their own interests. And the overwhelming majority of them is white. The whole idea is that Democrats want to take their money (as if it ever was really theirs) and give it to people of color. Thats it in a nutshell. A few of my GOP friends admit that. But most deny it. Whereas, Im not voting against things. Im voting my own interests, and what I see as the nations. Isnt that what were supposed to do? I am not in the richest 1%, and I never will be. My taxes are affordably low, and if mine are, then you know the 1%s are, by geometrical factors. And if I ever find myself in the richest 1%, I will then be able to afford to vote for redistribution by progressive taxation, because I will have gotten everything I will ever need.
