Interesting conversation about probiotics for kids the other day - TopicsExpress

Interesting conversation about probiotics for kids the other day (here: buff.ly/Rjp8l6) and I answered a reader wondering about a specific brand. If you’re looking into a probiotic, my method (looking up ingredients on Amazon, for starters) might help you out too: “Im not sure about that brand (Schiff Digestive Advantage Probiotic Gummies) in particular, but in general Ive heard that if there are active probiotics or enzymes in gummies, theyd turn themselves to liquid before they got to your house...??? Here are the ingredients in the Schiff gummies: Corn Syrup, Sugar, Gelatin, Citric Acid, Sorbitol, Natural Flavors, Lactic Acid, Colors from Fruits and Vegetables. Happy to see no artificial colors, but the use of corn syrup and sugar instead of more natural sugars tells me the brand is not making much of an attempt to even speak to the healthy crowd, odd. Sorbitol is sketchy as a sweetener. And where is the probiotic in there? Maybe they dont list it because the product description lists the B30 probiotic, but I am skeptical. I looked up the capsule form, and it DOES list the probiotic like this: Ganedenbc (Bacillus Coagulans) 2 Billion Viable Cells. Id want to look into it more to know if there were actually live and active cultures in the gummies (which are candy) - also its recommended to have multiple strains of probiotics, and this only has one. Hope that helps give you a jumping off point to look into it further!!”
