Interesting day yesterday. 5.30 am Leave for Addenbrookes Hospital in the hope they have a bed after all. They phoned on Saturday night to cancel op as there are no beds. 7am. Arrive at hospital. Receptionist (white English) says they DO have a bed. Indian nurse takes us to ward. Measured etc by student nurse.(African) 8.00 answer questions about medical history to assistant anaesthetist.(Greek) 8.15. Discussion about procedure with Tev Aho, the surgeon from New Zealand. 9.00.anaesthetist (Indian) puts me to sleep. 11.30 nurse in recovery ward (Polish) discusses the relative merits of living in Leicester and Cambridge with me. 12.00 back to ward and full English breakfast. 1-4 read, talk to nice Indian nurses and hourly obs. 4.20 Sue comes to take me home. 6.00 arrive home. 7.00 supper 8.00 Watch you tube film of Tev Aho doing the operation Ive had. (Its not me on the video, just the same operation. 9.00 watch Grantchester. 10.00 Complete questionnaire from Tories on Facebook who want to understand my concerns about immigration. Yeah, right.
