Interesting discussion regarding drug screening city employees. The attorney says it is search and seizure and illegal. Council member says we should not put a cloud of suspicion over our staff. I think its time we get real about the discussion and have an honest discussion about it. Not just an OH NO, we should not do this. We say we want to stop abuse in our community. But do we really? If we are unwilling to take a solid stand and do it, then perhaps we are not serious about taking care of people. And maybe it is not drug screening. But perhaps funding organizations like the Wellness Coalition so that they can do the work to be certain that we have resources for those who need them, when they need them. I think it is good to have the discussion and thanks to whoever put it on the agenda. And FYI, a 7th grader cannot play basketball until he/she passes a drug screen.
