Interesting discussion today with Hampton Biz owners about support for Downtown Hampton and how much things have changed in 50 years. I can remember when I arrived here 25 years ago, there was little development above J Clyde exit on 64. Times have changed, population centers shifted, development marches on (sprints at times). The masses are at Port Warwick and City Center events these days. I believe Downtown Hampton has a lot to offer, the redevelopment and new construction in the last 10 years have been impressive. But I think that to ignore the changes in the region while using the same paradigm and old solutions might not produce the desired results for community involvement and support of Downtown Hampton Events and Business patronage. I could be wrong, but it seems a new paradigm is needed, leadership is needed, playing not to lose will no longer work and some passion for the area like I hear from people like Anne Shuford, Katherine Glass, Luis Otero and all of the members of the Downtown Hampton Exchange Club will all be needed if the area is to be reimagined, reignited and/or reinvigorated.
