Interesting petition. The shock and horror that Canadian funding for the CBC is four times lower than that provided to the BBC. What they dont tell you though, is how the BBC is funded. Its an annual Television License (tax) of 145 pounds - roughly 265 dollars per year. If we cancelled all current funding for the CBC and implemented the British model, it would generate a yearly tax for you and $3.4 billion for the CBC, more than tripling their budget. Some other countrys TV Tax rates (per year): Germany 215 Euros France 121 Euros Denmark 324 Euros Ireland 168 Euros Norway 358 Euros Sweden 250 Euros Japan 145 Euros The cuts being asked of the CBC are no different than that required out of every government department, to bring spending back in line with growth and balance the budget.
