Interesting story that kind of fell out of the spotlight as time passed. Porter was arrested in Panama on an international warrant for fraud charges related to an alleged bribery scandal for a major McGill hospital project while he was director of the hospital. Hes been in Panama since his arrest in May 2013. Hes now being extradited to face the charges in Canada, although he can still appeal. The reason this is applicable to politics is that Stephen Harper appointed him head of the Security Intelligence Review Committee, the body that has oversight over CSIS, our national intelligence service. This article (news.nationalpost/2013/10/04/letter-warning-stephen-harper-against-appointing-arthur-porter-to-oversee-spy-agency-raised-no-red-flags/) from a few months after his arrest, summarizes the whole ordeal, from appointment, to resignation, to arrest. Some very valid points raised about the appointments process.
