Interesting talk by Jeremy Kepner & colleagues of MIT Lincoln Laboratory on a new low-overhead technique, Computing on Masked Data (CMD), for assuring the veracity (the fourth V) of data in Big Data analytics scenarios, where vast quantities of highly diverse data (text, computer logs, and social media data, etc.) are automatically being ingested. Traditional techniques for assuring the veracity of data incur overheads that are often too large to apply to big data. CMD allows data to be masked, operated on, and then unmasked when the answers are desired.
